Key Eligibility Requirements

1. Employment Status: Both parents must be employees with at least 26 weeks continuous service by the end of the 15th week before the due date.
2. Earnings: Must earn at least £123 per week on average.
3. Notice Period: Must give at least 8 weeks’ notice before starting Shared Parental Leave.
4. Total Leave: Up to 50 weeks of shared parental leave and up to 37 weeks of shared parental pay.

How Shared Parental Pay is Calculated

Standard Rate: £172.48 per week or 90% of your average weekly earnings (whichever is lower).

Example Calculation:
Average weekly earnings: £500
90% of earnings: £450
Statutory rate: £172.48 (lower, so this applies)

For 20 weeks of leave: £172.48 × 20 = £3,449.60
