About the PHQ‑9

Patient Health Questionnaire‑9

The PHQ‑9 is a validated screening tool for depression. Each item is scored 0–3, total range 0–27. Scores ≥10 have high sensitivity for major depression. Always follow up with a clinical interview.

Scoring: Sum of all nine items. The functional impairment question (difficulty) is not added to the score but helps assess impact.

Important: If you scored ≥10 or had thoughts of self‑harm (question 9 >0), please contact a mental health professional.
