Coil Calculator
Calculate metal coil weight, length, and other specifications based on dimensions, material type, and gauge. Perfect for metalworking and fabrication projects.
Step 1: Coil Dimensions
Understanding Coil Dimensions
The outer diameter is the overall diameter of the coil, while the inner diameter is the diameter of the core or mandrel. The width is the measurement across the face of the coil. These dimensions are critical for accurate weight and length calculations.
Step 2: Material and Options
About Material Density
Material density is the mass per unit volume, measured in g/cm³. Different materials have different densities, which affects the weight of the coil. Steel is the most common material for metal coils, but aluminum, copper, and other metals are also used in various applications.

Weight Calculation Breakdown
Coil Weight Formula
Weight = Volume × Density
To calculate coil weight, first calculate the volume of the coil using the formula for the volume of a hollow cylinder: π × (OD² – ID²) × Width / 4. Then multiply by the material density to get the weight.
