Injury Severity Score (ISS) Calculator — Trauma Assessment Tool

Injury Severity Score (ISS) Calculator

Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS)

AIS scores range from 0 (no injury) to 6 (maximum injury, untreatable). ISS is calculated by taking the three highest AIS scores from different body regions, squaring them, and summing them.

Step 2: Patient Information

About ISS Calculation

The Injury Severity Score ranges from 0 to 75. If any AIS score is 6 (maximum injury), the ISS is automatically 75. An ISS > 15 is generally considered major trauma.

ISS Calculation Formula

ISS = (AIS₁)² + (AIS₂)² + (AIS₃)²

To calculate ISS: Identify the three highest AIS scores from different body regions, square each value, and sum them. Maximum ISS is 75 (if any AIS = 6).
