Iron Deficiency Calculator (Ganzoni)
Calculate total iron deficit, recommended IV iron dose, and volume based on weight, hemoglobin, target Hb, and iron stores. For healthcare professionals.
Step 1: Patient parameters
70 kg
10.0 g/dL
13.0 g/dL
Ganzoni formula
Total iron deficit (mg) = weight (kg) × (target Hb − actual Hb) (g/dL) × 2.4 + iron stores (mg). Stores default 500 mg for adults, adjust below.
Step 2: Stores & iron formulation
500 mg
Iron stores note
Typical stores: 500 mg (adult), 10‑15 mg/kg for children. Adjust based on clinical context. Volume calculation uses concentration of selected preparation.

Deficit components
Ganzoni formula
Total iron deficit (mg) = weight (kg) × (target Hb − actual Hb) (g/dL) × 2.4 + iron stores (mg)
If target Hb ≤ actual Hb, deficit = iron stores only. The factor 2.4 derives from blood volume (0.24 L/kg) and hemoglobin iron content.
