Fence Stain Calculator
Calculate exactly how much stain you need for your fence project. Determine stain quantity, coverage, and total cost based on fence dimensions and stain type.
Step 1: Fence Dimensions
Measuring Your Fence
Measure the total linear feet of fencing you need to stain. Multiply length by height for total square footage. Most fences require staining both sides for complete protection.
Step 2: Stain Details
About Stain Coverage
Coverage varies by stain type and wood porosity. Transparent stains cover 250-400 sq ft/gal, semi-transparent 200-300 sq ft/gal, and solid stains 150-250 sq ft/gal. Rough wood requires more stain.

Stain Calculation Formula
Gallons Needed = (Length × Height × Sides × Coats) ÷ Coverage
To calculate stain needed: Multiply fence length by height, then multiply by number of sides and coats. Divide by coverage per gallon. Add 10% for waste and overlap.
