Public Charging Cost Calculator
Calculate the cost of charging your electric vehicle at public charging stations. Compare different charging speeds, electricity rates, and estimate your charging time and expenses.
Step 1: Charging Details
Charging Efficiency
Public charging stations typically have 85-95% efficiency due to energy conversion losses and thermal management systems. This means you’ll pay for slightly more electricity than what actually enters your battery.
Step 2: Cost & Charging Options
About Charging Costs
Public charging costs vary significantly based on location, provider, and charging speed. Rapid charging typically costs more per kWh than slower charging options. Some providers also charge session fees or idle fees after charging is complete.

Cost Breakdown
Charging Cost Formula
Cost = (Battery Capacity × (Target % – Current %) × Electricity Rate) / Charging Efficiency
To calculate charging cost, multiply the battery capacity by the percentage of charge needed, then multiply by the electricity rate. For example: 75 kWh battery, 60% charge needed at £0.45/kWh with 90% efficiency = (75 × 0.6 × 0.45) / 0.9 = £22.50.
