Cinder Block Calculator
Calculate how many cinder blocks you need for your construction project. Estimate materials, mortar, and total cost for walls, foundations, and more.
Step 1: Wall Dimensions
Standard Block Sizes
Standard cinder blocks are typically 16 inches long and 8 inches high (face dimensions). Actual dimensions vary slightly due to mortar joints. Always add 5-10% extra for waste and cuts.
Step 2: Block & Cost Details
Material Estimates
A standard 80 lb bag of mortar typically covers about 12-15 blocks. For precise calculations, consult your mortar manufacturer’s specifications and local building codes.

Cinder Block Formula
Blocks = (Wall Length in Inches / 16) × (Wall Height in Inches / 8)
Standard cinder blocks are 16″ long × 8″ high (face dimensions). Multiply the number of blocks per course by the number of courses to get total blocks. Add 10% for waste. Mortar: approximately 1 bag per 12-15 blocks.
