EPDM Material Calculation Formula
Total Membrane = Length × Width × Waste Factor
Where:
• Length = Roof length in feet
• Width = Roof width in feet
• Waste Factor = 1.05 to 1.20 (5% to 20% waste)
Additional Materials:
• Adhesive = Perimeter × 0.25 gallons per foot
• Seam Tape = Perimeter × 1.1 (10% extra)
• Flashings = Perimeter ÷ 10 (every 10 feet)
Roll Calculation:
• Standard roll = 10′ × 100′ = 1000 sq ft
• Rolls needed = Total Membrane ÷ 1000
Example Calculation
Example: 40′ × 30′ Flat Roof
Roof Area: 40 × 30 = 1,200 sq ft
Waste Factor: 10% (1.10)
Membrane Calculation:
1,200 × 1.10 = 1,320 sq ft
Adhesive Calculation:
Perimeter = (40 + 30) × 2 = 140 ft
Adhesive = 140 × 0.25 = 35 gallons
Seam Tape Calculation:
Seam Tape = 140 × 1.1 = 154 ft
