Hamwi Ideal Body Weight Formula
For men: 106 lb for the first 5 feet of height, plus 6 lb for each additional inch
For women: 100 lb for the first 5 feet of height, plus 5 lb for each additional inch
Frame Size Adjustment:
• Small frame: Subtract 10% from ideal weight
• Medium frame: No adjustment (ideal weight)
• Large frame: Add 10% to ideal weight
Conversions:
• Kilograms = Pounds × 0.453592
• Stones = Pounds ÷ 14
Example Calculation
Example: 5’10” Male, Medium Frame
Height: 5 feet 10 inches
Base weight for men: 106 lb for first 5 feet
Additional inches: 10 inches × 6 lb = 60 lb
Calculation:
106 lb + 60 lb = 166 lb (medium frame)
Small frame: 166 lb – 10% = 149 lb
Large frame: 166 lb + 10% = 183 lb
Weight Range: 149 – 183 lb
Converted: 68 – 83 kg or 10.6 – 13.1 st
