Metal Roof Panel Calculator
Calculate materials, cost, and layout for metal roofing projects. Determine panel requirements, cost estimates, and waste percentages.
Step 1: Roof Specifications
Roof Area Formula
Roof Area = Length × Width × Pitch Factor
Pitch Factor adjusts for slope increase
Step 2: Panel Specifications
Common Panel Sizes
Standard widths: 24″, 30″, 36″, 48″
Common lengths: 8′, 10′, 12′, 16′, 20′
Typical cost: $30-$100 per panel
Waste factor: 5-15% depending on complexity

Roofing Calculation Formulas
Panels Required = Roof Area ÷ (Panel Width × Panel Length) × (1 + Waste Factor)
Where:
• Roof Area = Length × Width × Pitch Factor
• Pitch Factor = √(1 + (Pitch/12)²)
• Panel Width in feet = Panel Width in inches ÷ 12
• Waste Factor = 5-15% based on roof complexity
Total Cost = Panels Required × Cost per Panel
Example Calculation
Example: 40′ × 30′ Roof with 4/12 Pitch
Roof Length: 40 feet
Roof Width: 30 feet
Pitch Factor (4/12): 1.054
Roof Area: 40 × 30 × 1.054 = 1,265 sq ft
Panel Size: 3ft × 12ft = 36 sq ft each
Panels Needed: 1,265 ÷ 36 = 35.1 panels
With 10% waste: 35.1 × 1.10 = 39 panels
At $45 per panel: 39 × $45 = $1,755 total cost
