Sand Calculator
Calculate how much sand you need for your landscaping, construction, or play area project. Determine volume, weight, number of bags, and total cost.
Step 1: Project Dimensions
Measuring Your Area
For rectangular areas, multiply length × width. For circular areas, use π × radius². Standard sand depth for most projects is 2-4 inches.
Step 2: Sand Type & Cost
About Sand Types
Play sand is fine-grained and washed for safety. Masonry sand is used for mortar. Concrete sand is coarse for mixing concrete. Fill sand is economical for large areas.

Sand Calculation Formula
Volume (cubic yards) = (Length × Width × Depth/12) ÷ 27
To calculate sand volume: Multiply length (ft) × width (ft) × depth (in) ÷ 12 to get cubic feet, then divide by 27 to convert to cubic yards. Multiply by density (typically 1.35 tons/cu yd) to get weight.
