Wall Area Calculator
Calculate the total wall area of any room for painting, wallpaper, or tiling projects. Account for windows, doors, and other openings to get accurate material estimates.
Step 1: Room Dimensions
Calculating Wall Area
Wall area = (Length + Width) × 2 × Height. For standard rectangular rooms, this formula calculates all four walls. Adjust for non-rectangular rooms or partial walls.
Step 2: Openings & Deductions
Standard door area: 21 sq ft (3ft × 7ft). Each door will be subtracted from total wall area.
Standard window area: 12 sq ft (3ft × 4ft). Each window will be subtracted from total wall area.
Accounting for Openings
Subtract doors, windows, and other openings from total wall area to get accurate paintable/wallpaperable surface. This prevents over-purchasing materials.

Paint coverage: 350-400 sq ft per gallon. Wallpaper rolls: 30 sq ft per roll. Tile: varies by size. These are estimates; always purchase 10-15% extra for waste and mistakes.
Area Calculation Breakdown
Wall Area Formula
Total Area = (2 × (Length + Width) × Height × Walls/4) – Openings + Ceiling
This formula calculates total wall surface area, subtracts doors/windows, adds ceiling if selected, and includes waste factor for material estimates.
