Wall Stud Calculator
Calculate the number of wall studs needed for your framing project. Determine stud count, plate requirements, and total material cost based on wall dimensions and spacing.
Step 1: Wall Dimensions
Standard Spacing
Most residential walls use 16″ on-center spacing for structural support. 24″ spacing may be used for non-load bearing walls. Always check local building codes.
Step 2: Cost & Options
Calculating Studs
Number of studs = (Wall length in inches ÷ Stud spacing) + 1. Add extra studs for corners, openings, and intersections. Double top plates require additional material.

Stud Calculation Formula
Studs = (Wall Length × 12 ÷ Stud Spacing) + 1 + Corners
Total studs are calculated based on wall length and spacing. Add extra studs for corners (3-4 per corner), openings (2 per side), and wall intersections. Plates = (Wall Length × 2) for single top plate, or ×3 for double top plate.
