Concrete Stairs Calculator
Calculate concrete volume, materials, and costs for stair projects. Determine concrete needed for stair dimensions, risers, and treads.
Step 1: Stair Dimensions
Concrete Volume Formula
Volume (cubic feet) = (Riser × Tread × Width × Number of Steps) / 1728
Concrete needed (cubic yards) = Volume ÷ 27
Step 2: Stair Type & Options
Standard Stair Dimensions
Residential: Riser 7-8″, Tread 10-11″
Commercial: Riser 6-7″, Tread 11-12″
Exterior: Riser 6-7″, Tread 12-14″
Code requirements: Riser ≤ 7.75″, Tread ≥ 10″

Stair Type Comparison
| Stair Type | Steps | Concrete (yd³) | Estimated Cost |

Concrete Volume Formula
Volume (cubic feet) = (Riser Height × Tread Depth × Stair Width × Number of Steps) ÷ 1728
Where:
• Riser Height = Vertical height of each step (inches)
• Tread Depth = Horizontal depth of each step (inches)
• Stair Width = Total width of the staircase (inches)
• Number of Steps = Total number of risers
• 1728 = Conversion from cubic inches to cubic feet (12³)
To convert:
• Cubic Yards = Cubic Feet ÷ 27
• Cubic Meters = Cubic Feet × 0.0283168
Example Calculation
Example: 10-Step Residential Staircase
Riser: 7.5 inches
Tread: 11 inches
Width: 36 inches
Steps: 10
Calculation:
(7.5 × 11 × 36 × 10) ÷ 1728 =
29700 ÷ 1728 =
17.19 cubic feet
Converted:
17.19 ft³ = 0.64 yd³ = 0.49 m³
